Our church will host the quarterly meeting of the South Central District Association of Free Will Baptists, Saturday, August 4. New Life Drama Company will lead the worship service after our church serves a brunch to our guests. The meeting begins at 9:00. You don’t have to be a delegate to attend as the entire meeting is open to all.
“In every way… Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.”
(Philippians 1:18, NKJV)
Last month, customers spent more than $1.2 million at the 34 video gaming machines in 7 businesses in our community. That’s just the wagers made in ONE month (October)! In August, our pastor submitted a detailed report to the City Council regarding this issue. In Illinois, video gaming (gambling) is tied to the sale of liquor by the drink so liquor ordinances have to be adjusted to make allowances for it at establishments that do not typically sell liquor by the drink. The City Council will again consider local ordinances concerning Class B liquor licenses required for the installation of VGTs (video game terminals). Many in our community are opposed to the expansion of video gambling. If you are, please attend the City Council meeting Tuesday, November 28, 6:00 pm, 114 W. Broadway. You may sign up to speak for a limited time during “public comments” portion at the beginning of the meeting.
