The Impact of Video Gaming in Johnston City

Last month, customers spent more than $1.2 million at the 34 video gaming machines in 7 businesses in our community. That’s just the wagers made in ONE month (October)! In August, our pastor submitted a detailed report to the City Council regarding this issue. In Illinois, video gaming (gambling) is tied to the sale of liquor by the drink so liquor ordinances have to be adjusted to make allowances for it at establishments that do not typically sell liquor by the drink. The City Council will again consider local ordinances concerning Class B liquor licenses required for the installation of VGTs (video game terminals). Many in our community are opposed to the expansion of video gambling. If you are, please attend the City Council meeting Tuesday, November 28, 6:00 pm, 114 W. Broadway. You may sign up to speak for a limited time during “public comments” portion at the beginning of the meeting. To read the latest stats for our community or any particular establishment go to the Illinois Gaming Board’s website. Read More
